Fashion review: A bit of class and a bit of style

Fashion review: A bit of class and a bit of style

By Linda Adeoti

The desire for style and class is now at an all-time high, with women leaning towards standout aesthetics. These days, it’s no longer about what’s trendy but what makes a statement. Women want to be seen as different and unique, and they also want to do it with style.

When was the last time you saw a woman rocking ripped jeans? Men, maybe. But women? Hardly. This shows that this era is one of evolution, and fashion is a major part of that.

This demand for classy and stylish outfits has made brands step up their game, catering to the taste of these sets of women who seek uniqueness. And you know the best part? It doesn’t have to be designer labels like Miu Miu, Fenty, Balenciaga or Chanel. There are plenty of brands creating high-quality fashion pieces at accessible prices. One such brand is Lukabi.

Lukabi is a Nigerian fashion brand owned by the talented designer Lukman Abioye Ayorinde. Lukman launched his brand in 2019 out of his passion for fashion, which celebrates feminine style. He noticed a gap in the market and established his business to address the need for stylish clothing that caters to women’s beauty.
Lukabi creates design pieces to flatter women of various body types. It celebrates body positivity, instilling confidence in the wearers. With style and class being the new norm for the modern woman, Lukabi has tapped into that narrative, focusing on creating garments for women who love fashion and enjoy expressing themselves through their style.
With all that said, here’s the real tea: they just dropped their latest 2022 collection. Yup, you heard us right. A collection for the classy ladies? We love to see it. And if there’s one thing we do best, it’s reviews.
So, shall we? Let’s dive into the Lukabi ‘Crystal Condo’ 2022 Collection.

First of all, the colours! Second of all, the colours!!
The colours capture attention almost immediately, and honestly, that’s a good first impression.
This piece definitely makes heads turn. With quite a lot going on here, let’s take our time to look at the details carefully, starting with the sleeves.
Besides the beautiful colours, the sleeves are the first feature that catches the eye. If you think it’s the bow, that’s understandable; it is a fantastic addition as well. But let’s talk about the sleeves first. They are puffy but still kept simple. The volume is controlled, and it’s gathered in a way that adds shape and movement.
The neckline is soft and slightly square but with rounded edges. It complements the puffed sleeves really well and allows the whole top half to feel well-balanced. The neckline also leaves room for the big bow, which is another star of the show. The bow is not in any way childish; rather, it makes the dress more unique.
Let’s talk about the overall structure. This is an A-line dress—just like the letter A, it cinches at the top and flares out gently. It does not restrict the body, but it still holds its shape beautifully. The row of buttons running down the centre adds a structured and more tailored feel.
The dress stops at mid-calf, which is such a smart choice. If it were shorter than this, it would’ve appeared more casual, and if it were floor-length, it’d probably feel too formal. But this midi length makes it versatile—good enough to wear to an event, a dinner, or even a fancy brunch. Plus, the right heels, like the silver strapped kind the model has on, give that effortlessly elegant vibe.
The dress fabric seems structured but still maintains that flowy vibe. This is only possible with the blend of a slightly stiff fabric like taffeta mixed with a softer material. This explains why the sleeves hold their shape and the skirt drapes so beautifully.
The colour of the dress makes it super exciting. The two-tone design of navy blue and deep red is such a bold choice. It immediately makes you stop and stare. The colours complement each other so well. Red brings energy and passion, while navy blue brings simple elegance. Together, they create this perfect contrast. And let’s not forget how the bow ties both colours together—literally.
The bow deserves its own moment. Even with its big size, it sits so well on the dress. Then there’s the row of buttons running down the centre. The buttons allow for a smooth transition between the two colours.
The hem is clean and precise. It has no extra layers, just a very smooth finish. It is a perfect mix of classic and contemporary. With elements like the puffy sleeves, the bow, and the button-down detail, it feels very unique.
To imagine a setting for this dress, it’ll probably be an elegant afternoon event—maybe a garden party or an art exhibition. That’s honestly the vibe it gives. Pair it with minimal jewellery— because the dress already has a lot going on—some sleek heels and a mini handbag, and you’re good to go.

This is the second piece in the collection, and it is indeed different, but in a good way. It is bold—no doubt—but not in an over-the-top way.
Let’s break it down piece by piece, starting with the top.
The colour! That orange is bold. The shade is an instant mood lift. The warm and bright energy is not for someone who wants to fade into the background. It’s for the ladies who want to stand out, be seen for their confidence, and be appreciated for their style.
The square neckline gives it a clean and structured look. It highlights the collarbone and shoulders so perfectly that a statement jewellery piece would hit the mark. The simple straps keep everything in place without drawing too much attention.
Then there’s the shape of the top itself. It hugs the body at the top and then flares out at the waist. And that front uneven edges? It just makes the whole design come together. It makes the top more interesting, taking it from a basic peplum to this slightly edgy piece.
Whilst there’s nothing wrong with the top, being a little extra never hurt anybody. The designer could elevate this piece a notch further by making it a three-piece. An additional jacket to this ensemble will be a deal breaker. This way, it is even more versatile. You can rock it to a formal and informal gathering. Plus, during cold weather, it doesn’t have to take backstage.
Now, let’s bring our focus to the pants. They are far from ordinary. The first noticeable feature is the shape. It is not your regular straight-leg or wide-leg design. This one has a twist to it. It is designed with this layered, draped look that makes it flow beautifully. It gives that relaxed yet elegant vibe, like something you’d wear if you wanted to look fashionable and still maintain class.
The earthy brown colour perfectly balances out the bright orange of the top. The colour combo looks like it is straight out of the colour wheel—warm orange and deep brown. They feel very natural, almost like autumn tones. With that harmonious blend, they create a unique contrast.
The fabric looks soft but structured. This typically means it holds its shape while still allowing movement. The top has a bit of stiffness to it, while the skirt is more flowy and drapes naturally. This intentional mix of structure and movement makes the outfit stand out.
The beauty of this outfit is in the small details. The clean stitching and the way the slit in the top lines up perfectly are a few of the things that take it from “just a nice outfit” to something special.
And let’s not forget the skirt’s hem length. It’s not straight; it has layers and angles, which make it more visually interesting. The way it falls gives the outfit a kind of unusual fitting.
Overall, this outfit is perfect for the woman who wants to slay effortlessly. It is bold but not loud, different but not weird, structured but still allows for ease of movement.
Where would this be perfect for? Fashion events, creative gatherings, or even a stylish dinner—basically anywhere you want to look unique and confident without feeling overdressed. The outfit speaks for itself, paired with simple heels and statement-making accessories.
The 2022 Crystal Condo collection has shown that timeless fashion never goes out of style. You can be classy and remain stylish. And like they say, “If e dey, e dey and if e didn’t dey, e didn’t dey”. Period. With the recent evolution era that has greatly impacted fashion trends, women are spending their racks on brands that deliver quality. Since Lukabi cracked that code just six years after launch, it’s only up from here on now. We can’t wait to see what’s next. Jumpsuit? Pleated skirts? Let’s have it.
