SOKOTO – Governor Ahmed Aliyu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to reviving all moribund industries in Sokoto State, as part of efforts to boost economic growth and tackle unemployment.

The Governor made this known while receiving members of the Sokoto State Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines, and Agriculture (SOCCIMA), who paid him a Sallah homage at the Government House.

Governor Aliyu lamented the collapse of several once-thriving industries in the state, describing it as a major setback to job creation and wealth generation.

“From the 1980s up to the late 1990s, Sokoto had many functional industries, including ceramics, tannery, furniture production, and fertilizer blending plants. These industries significantly contributed to revenue generation and job creation,” he said.

He noted that the current administration is implementing an “ease of doing business” policy aimed at creating an enabling environment for industrial and economic development.

Governor Aliyu emphasized the state government’s readiness to partner with interested investors in reviving collapsed industries, adding that his administration has already begun laying the groundwork for sustainable industrial growth.

“We have prioritized the development of key infrastructure, such as road construction, to support industrialization. Additionally, efforts are underway to complete the Sokoto Independent Power Plant project initiated by the Wamakko-led administration,” he stated.

According to the Governor, the completion of the power plant will significantly improve electricity supply and stimulate business activities in the state.

He urged SOCCIMA to intensify efforts in promoting Sokoto’s economic potential, particularly in the areas of agriculture, mining, trade, and commerce, to both local and international investors.

Governor Aliyu also reiterated his administration’s support and collaboration with SOCCIMA to position Sokoto as a preferred business and investment destination.

Earlier in his remarks, SOCCIMA President, Alhaji Muazu Malami Maaji, commended Governor Aliyu for the transformational strides across major sectors of the state, especially those that enhance the ease of doing business.

He praised the administration’s urban renewal program, describing it as a remarkable achievement that has given Sokoto city a new and modern look.

Alhaji Maaji also thanked the Governor for his continuous support to the Chamber and assured him of SOCCIMA’s readiness to collaborate with the state government in attracting investments and promoting sustainable economic development.
