Analyst debunks Senator Natasha’s claim on senate seating position

A Public Affairs Analyst, ThankGod Christopher, has dismissed as false the claim by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan that her assigned seat in the Senate chamber makes her invisible to cameras and fellow lawmakers.

Speaking in a statement, Christopher argued that if such a situation were true, it would represent a serious architectural flaw and an indictment of the professionals who designed and constructed the Nigerian Senate chamber.

Christopher emphasized that the chamber was designed to meet global best practices in legislative architecture, ensuring visibility, audibility, and full participation of all Senators.

“The Senate seating arrangement is semi-circular, allowing every lawmaker to be within the line of sight of the presiding officers and the cameras covering legislative sessions,” he noted.

He further pointed out that many Senators have previously occupied and effectively contributed from the same seating area without raising any concerns. Additionally, legislative sessions are recorded and broadcast, and no evidence exists to support the notion that any seat is designed to render a lawmaker invisible.

Christopher also took issue with the Brekete Family radio program, where Senator Natasha made the claim, criticizing the host for allegedly taking sides without verifying facts.

“It is disappointing that the radio host prematurely declared that ‘the masses are with her’ without considering the structural integrity of the Senate chamber. Such a statement reflects bias rather than objective journalism,” he said.

He stressed that responsible media should promote fact-based discourse rather than fueling baseless narratives driven by political theatrics.

Concluding his analysis, Christopher reiterated that the Senate chamber was built for functionality, inclusivity, and visibility.

“No seat is designed to silence any Senator. Claims suggesting otherwise are simply misleading and politically motivated.”
