…Assures Commitment to Promoting Good Governance

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom State has criticized Governor Umo Eno for marginalizing the Oro Nation—comprising Oron, Okobo, Udung Uko, Mbo, and Urueoffong/Oruko Local Government Areas—in his new cabinet.

In a statement issued yesterday by its Media Network, chaired by Otuekong Iniobong John, the APC argued that the appointment process undermines the people’s desire for a transparent and accountable government.

“The APC condemns the marginalisation of Oro federal constituency, which received only two commissioner slots for five local government areas, while Eket LGA alone was allotted two commissioners,” the statement read.

The party expressed concern over the reappointment of individuals who, according to them, had performed poorly in previous administrations at the local, state, and national levels. It accused the governor of prioritizing “political compensation over merit” in his nominations.

“Former National Assembly members, former Council Chairmen, former House of Assembly members, and former Commissioners—who performed woefully in the past—have now been returned and given another opportunity to fail again,” the APC asserted.

The party reaffirmed its commitment to promoting good governance, economic development, and security in Akwa Ibom State, aligning with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Meanwhile, the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, confirmed 20 out of the 27 commissioner and special adviser nominees. The screening and confirmation of the remaining seven nominees are scheduled for Thursday, February 20.
