The House of Representatives has urged the Federal Government to deploy military troops immediately to communities in Borno State recently attacked by Boko Haram insurgents, leading to the loss of lives and destruction of properties.

This resolution followed a motion of urgent public importance moved by Midala Balami, representing the Askira-Uba/Hawul Federal Constituency of Borno State.

Balami, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, highlighted the recent attack on Jibwuwhi and Yarkawa communities in Hawul Local Government Area, which resulted in tragic casualties and displacement of residents.

“These violent attacks persist despite ongoing security interventions, leaving communities vulnerable to repeated assaults, loss of livelihoods, and severe humanitarian crises,” Balami lamented.

He expressed concern that residents of the affected communities are living in fear, many forced to flee their homes. The lawmaker criticized the inadequate security response and lack of immediate relief support, worsening the plight of victims.

Following the motion’s adoption, the House resolved as follows: The Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police Force, and other security agencies were urged to immediately deploy personnel to Jibwuwhi, Yarkawa, and other vulnerable areas in Hawul Local Government Area to prevent future attacks.

The Federal Government, through the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, in collaboration with the Borno State Government, was tasked with delivering relief materials, including food, medical aid, and psychosocial support to affected residents.

The Committees on Army, National Security and Intelligence, and Humanitarian Affairs were mandated to investigate the security lapses that led to the attack and ensure prompt security reinforcements and humanitarian assistance.

The House urged the Federal Government to enhance counter-terrorism strategies, improve intelligence gathering, and foster collaboration between security agencies and local vigilante groups to curb insurgent activities in Askira-Uba/Hawul Federal Constituency.

The lawmakers stressed the need for swift action to prevent further attacks, safeguard lives, and alleviate the suffering of affected communities.
