An international workshop that will further strengthen the fight against piracy and copyright infringement in Nigeria  is scheduled to hold in Lagos, the commercial nerve centre of the nation next month.

Organized by the Nigerian Film Corporation (NFC) in collaboration with Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC) and the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO), the workshop, apart from copyright and piracy issues, intends to address new media and other related issues that affect the sustainable development of the Nigerian motion picture industry .

The workshop takes place at the Lagos office of the Nigerian Film Corporation, in Ikoyi,  and will last for three days (April 11-13, 2012.)

In a statement by NFC, participants will be drawn from the professional guilds the make up the Nigerian motion picture industry including Producers, Marketers associations,  Exhibitors, and Actors Guild of Nigeria.

Others are creative industry experts, copyright and anti-piracy officials, entertainment outfits, satellite, telecoms, and terrestrial television and radio stations.

Also, officials from the Nigerian Film Corporation, the Nigerian Copyright Commission, National Film and Video Censors Board, selected Development Banks, the Nigerian Bar Association and those of the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) Geneva, Switzerland.

The workshop, which also intends to evaluate the current status of the Nigerian motion industry and the impact of copyright and piracy, starts by 9 o’clock in the morning daily, and participation is free.

Barr. Chinwe Okonkwo, Head Legal Unit of NFC, and Workshop coordinator  said the workshop will also attempt to chart a way forward for the growth and expansion of the industry with a view to increasing her contribution to the economic development of Nigeria.
