The Energy Reforms Advocates of Nigeria, ERAN, has called on the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPCL, to ensure a fair and transparent allocation of crude oil to Dangote Refinery and other local refineries.

The group warned that any reduction in allocations could undermine Nigeria’s quest for energy self-sufficiency, increase reliance on fuel imports, and perpetuate fuel scarcity.

Speaking at a briefing in Abuja yesterday ERAN’s leader, Daniel Clarke, expressed concern over reports of a planned cut in crude supply to local refineries, describing the alleged move as unjustifiable and detrimental to the nation’s energy sector.

Clarke emphasised that prioritising crude allocations to functional local refineries was critical to achieving energy independence and reducing reliance on expensive imports.

“The alleged move to cut crude oil supply to the Dangote Refinery and other local refineries is a cause for alarm.

‘’This decision, if implemented, would be patently unjustifiable and strategically detrimental to the refinery’s operational efficacy, thereby subverting Nigeria’s quest for energy self-sufficiency.

“It is particularly perplexing that this decision comes on the heels of reviving dormant refineries, which had been in a state of disrepair for an extended period and were allegedly utilised as conduits for embezzling billions of naira without any meaningful efforts to resuscitate them,” he stated.

ERAN called on the federal government to conduct independent audits of the oil sector’s operations, ensuring accountability and transparency.

It also urged stakeholders to resist any actions that could undermine the operations of local refineries.

, stressing the importance of supporting indigenous production to strengthen Nigeria’s energy sector and economy.

ERAN reiterated that fair crude allocation policies are essential for fostering a robust and sustainable energy industry, capable of meeting domestic demands and reducing the burden on citizens.
