The convener of the annual grassroots soccer tournament, otherwise called the Cohesion Football Tournament, Damilare Obagbemi, has said the aim of the tournament is to help build a brighter future for up-and-coming footballers.

Speaking during the 6th edition of the tournament in Lagos, Obagbemi, while expressing his joy over thrilling participation by all teams, said, “This year’s tournament has been nothing short of phenomenal. Watching these young athletes showcase their passion, skill, and determination on the field reminds us why we started this journey. Beyond the trophies, every player here has learnt lessons of teamwork, discipline, and perseverance—values that will serve them far beyond the pitch.

“As we celebrate the winners, we also honour every participant who stepped onto the field and gave their best. Together, we are building a brighter future, one match at a time.

“After two days of intense competition, Wazbak International FA emerged victorious in the male category, while Wazbak International Queens claimed the top spot in the female division. Their outstanding performances on the field highlighted the talent, discipline, and teamwork that the tournament is known for fostering.

“In the male category, Wazbak International FA clinched first place, with Ballers Connect FA and Amajo FA finishing as first and second runners-up, respectively. The female category was equally electrifying, as Wazbak International Queens took home the championship title, followed by Cats Ladies in second place and Phoenix Queens in third. These young athletes gave their all, leaving the audience inspired and energised.”
