As Nigeria transits to renewable energy, some companies have taken the lead to ensure that the country achieves the desired goal by providing cutting-edge solar energy solutions to the needs of the Nigerian market. One of such companies is Virtuitis Solaris, a subsidiary of Mojec International which has come up with innovations that are set redefine the energy landscape in the country. In this interview Chantelle Abdul, Group Managing Director Mojec International narrates the company’s vision. Excerpts
What contributions does Virtuitis Solaris intend to make in Nigeria’s transition to renewable energy, particularly in the context of the global shift towards cleaner energy sources?
Virtuitis Solaris is well positioned as a key player in Nigeria’s renewable energy transition. As the world moves towards cleaner energy sources to combat climate change, we are focused on accelerating the adoption of solar energy in Nigeria. Our role involves driving adoption of solar energy as a viable and sustainable alternative to traditional fossil fuels, targeting both urban and rural areas. Also by continuously innovating and improving our solar products, we ensure that our solutions meet the diverse energy needs of Nigerians, from small households to large industrial operations.
It is also instructive to note that we are engaging with policymakers and industry stakeholders to advocate for policies that support the growth of renewable energy in Nigeria, ensuring a favorable environment for solar investments.
What innovations are V Solaris bringing to the Nigerian solar market, and how do these innovations improve the user experience?
We are committed to leading the way in solar energy innovation in Nigeria. Some of the innovations we are bringing to the market include smart solar systems that are equipped with internet of things (IoT) technology, allowing users to monitor and control their energy consumption in real-time through mobile apps. This technology enhances user experience by providing insights into energy usage, optimizing efficiency, and enabling predictive maintenance.
I will also like to state that our hybrid solar systems combine solar power with battery storage and backup generators, ensuring a continuous power supply even during extended periods of low sunlight. This is particularly beneficial for critical infrastructure and businesses that require uninterrupted power.
To cap it all we are also leading the pack in bringing about Advanced Energy Storage by pioneering the use of next-generation battery technologies that offer higher energy density, longer life cycles, and faster charging times, providing more reliable energy storage solutions for our customers.
A lot of Nigerians are not in tune with the issue of renewable energy. They need to know, what are the economic benefits of adopting solar energy solutions from V Solaris for both individuals and businesses?
Number one advantage of keying to solar energy is that it helps to save cost. Solar energy reduces reliance on expensive and unstable grid electricity or diesel generators, leading to significant savings on energy bills. Over time, the initial investment in solar systems pays for itself through these savings.
Then we can talk about Energy Independence: Interestingly solar energy, allows businesses and households to gain greater control over their energy supply, reducing vulnerability to power outages and fluctuating energy costs.
We can also see it from the perspective of helping create jobs and by implication reducing unemployment. The adoption of solar energy supports local economies by creating jobs in installation, maintenance, and sales thereby contributing to economic growth and development
How do you describe the current state of the renewable energy sector in Nigeria, and how is V Solaris contributing to its growth?
I love to state that the renewable energy sector in Nigeria is experiencing rapid growth, driven by increasing demand for reliable power, government policies, and global shifts towards sustainable energy sources. Despite the challenges of infrastructure, financing, and regulatory bottlenecks, the sector has seen significant investments in solar energy solutions, particularly for off-grid and rural electrification projects.
V Solaris (VS), as a subsidiary of Mojec International, is at the forefront of this transformation. We are committed to providing affordable, reliable, and sustainable solar energy solutions that cater to both residential and commercial needs. By leveraging our expertise and the latest solar technologies, VS is helping to bridge the energy gap in Nigeria, reducing reliance on fossil fuels, and promoting environmental sustainability.
How does V Solaris differentiate itself from other solar energy companies in Nigeria?
We come very unique through a combination of cutting-edge technology, comprehensive service offerings, and our strong backing from MOJEC International. Our unique selling points include providing Innovative Solutions through a wide range of customizable solar energy products, from solar panels to energy storage systems, designed to meet diverse energy needs. Also Our products undergo rigorous quality control processes to ensure durability and high performance, even in challenging environments.
Added to that is our Customer-Centric Approach by offering end-to-end solutions, including consultation, installation, maintenance, and after-sales support, ensuring a seamless customer experience. And then our Local Expertise based on our deep knowledge of the Nigerian energy landscape, we are well-positioned to navigate the complexities of the market and deliver solutions that are tailored to local conditions.
What are the main challenges facing the adoption of solar energy in Nigeria, and how is V Solaris addressing these challenges?
The challenges are quite many and if I may say daunting including high Initial Costs. The upfront cost of solar installations can be prohibitive for many consumers. We can also talk about lack of awareness as many potential users are not fully aware of the long-term benefits of solar energy. Regulatory Hurdles like inconsistent policies and regulations can slow down the deployment of solar projects while shortage of skilled technicians to install and maintain solar systems equally pose as a challenge.
In terms of tackling these challenges we are in partnership with financial institutions offering innovative financing solutions, including convenient payment plans all aimed at making solar energy more accessible.
Part of our corporate goals is in educating the public about the benefits of solar energy through workshops, seminars, and community outreach programs We also believe very passionately in investments such as staff training and other development programmes so as to build a strong network of certified solar technicians
How does VSolaris ensure the sustainability and environmental impact of its solar energy solutions?
Sustainability is at the core of V Solaris’ mission. We are committed to reducing carbon emissions and minimizing the environmental impact of our operations. We ensure that our products are very Eco-friendly Products meaning that our solar panels and energy storage systems are designed with sustainability in mind, using materials that have a lower environmental footprint and are recyclable.
Furthermore, we place emphasis on the development of high-efficiency products that generate more energy from less sunlight, maximizing output while minimizing resource use. It will also interest you to note that we have executed and still engaged in community also promote environmental ambience among local population
What future plans does V Solaris have for expanding its presence and impact in Nigeria’s renewable energy sector?
I can assure you that we are not resting on our oars. V Solaris is poised for significant expansion in the coming years. Part of our future plans is to extend our reach to more states across Nigeria, particularly in underserved and off-grid areas, where the need for reliable energy is greatest. Also as an innovative and transformative brand we are poised for new solar products and solutions that cater to emerging markets.
