Accuses Opposition of Fueling Political Crisis

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State addressed concerns on Wednesday regarding the recent cabinet reshuffle that affected the office of the Chief of Staff, Secretary to the State Government, and five commissioners. He clarified that the changes were made in the best interest of the state.
During a press briefing at the Government House following the state executive council meeting, Governor Yusuf specifically refuted claims that the cabinet shake-up had political motivations.
In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa, the governor debunked the misrepresentation of his actions, insisting that the reshuffle was a well-intentioned decision aimed at improving the state’s governance.
“In recent times, we made some decisions, including the cabinet reshuffle,” Governor Yusuf said. “As a result, some individuals lost their positions, while others were reassigned to different roles. I want to remind the public that this decision was made in the best interest of the people of Kano.”
He explained that the need to drop some commissioners was to inject new energy into the administration and strengthen its policies. The reshuffle, he noted, was in line with the administration’s commitment to delivering on its campaign promises and ensuring effective governance.
Governor Yusuf emphasized the importance of the new appointees, who were recently screened and cleared by the state assembly. He stated that the new cabinet members would bring fresh ideas to accelerate the state’s social and infrastructural development. “We have promised to deliver dividends of democracy to our people, and we are already running short of time,” he said. “To speed up progress, we had to make these changes. We believe these adjustments will improve the system.”
He further reassured those affected by the reshuffle that they were not dismissed permanently and would be offered new roles. “Let me also say that we have not dropped those affected for life. We have other jobs for them, so I want everybody to accept the decision as it is. Those reassigned should bring their previous experiences to bear in their new roles.”
The governor also announced that the new commissioners would join the next executive council meeting, where their respective portfolios would be revealed.
Gov. Yusuf Accuses Opposition of Fueling Political Crisis in Kano
Governor Yusuf also accused opposition parties of instigating unrest and political instability in Kano. Speaking to journalists during the same executive council meeting, he vowed to take decisive action to curb the rise of thuggery and political violence in the state.
His comments followed a recent violent confrontation between suspected political thugs from opposing factions. The governor revealed that intelligence had uncovered the identities of those sponsoring unrest in Kano.
“Certain elements within the opposition, who are uncomfortable with the steady development, peace, and stability in the state, are trying to provoke unnecessary crises,” Governor Yusuf said. “We will confront these challenges with equal force, and we will not tolerate any attempts to disrupt the enduring peace and tranquility in the state.”
The governor assured that the state government would collaborate with all security agencies to address the activities of criminal elements intent on causing chaos.
