In commemoration of World Children’s Day, students from various secondary schools in Taraba State have urged the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) to intensify public enlightenment campaigns about the Child Rights Act across Nigeria.

During a visit to the Jalingo branch of the NBA, Hephzibah Boshi, a student of Anglican Comprehensive High School, highlighted the vulnerability of children under 18. She called on legal practitioners to raise awareness about children’s rights and commended organizations like UNICEF for their unwavering advocacy on child-related issues.

In his response, Martin Milkman, Chairman of the Jalingo Branch of the NBA, reaffirmed the provisions of the Child Rights Act, which ensures protection from abuse and emphasizes the rights of children to care and support from parents and guardians.

“The Act guarantees every child protection from abuse, and adequate care is essential for raising responsible adults who will positively contribute to society,” Milkman said.

He encouraged the students to report any violations of their rights to trusted individuals or organizations, including the NBA and media outlets, for appropriate action.

“Children, in particular, deserve additional protection. That is why we urge you to speak out when your rights are violated,” Milkman added.

The event reinforced the importance of collaboration between legal professionals, civil society organizations, and communities to uphold the rights and well-being of children.
