Several individuals sustained injuries during a violent clash in Ugboenyim, a border community between Ebonyi and Benue states.

Ugboenyim, an Izzi-speaking community from Ebonyi State residing in Ado Local Government Area of Benue State, has been embroiled in conflict since 2006 over control of the area. The ongoing power tussle has claimed lives and destroyed properties over the years.

The latest crisis reportedly left many injured, with victims suffering machete wounds, cane lashes, and gunshot injuries.

Sources revealed that domestic animals, including goats, native cows, and dogs, were looted during the chaos.

Among those injured were Chukwuma Iboko, Bernard Ukpa, and Nwofor Chukwuemeka, who are currently receiving medical treatment. Speaking to journalists, the victims alleged that they were attacked by a group known as the “Plan B Club,” led by one Romanus Ishiali.

The victims recounted being tied up and flogged with canes and machetes for allegedly failing to participate in communal work, a claim they vehemently denied, saying no such work was planned in the community.

Mrs. Obaleze Eto, one of the residents affected, said her goat, which she had intended to use for her late child’s burial rites, was forcefully taken during the unrest.

Chief Omogo Ijere, the village head, accused members of the “Plan B Club” of terrorizing the community through violence and looting.

“They attack, maim, and loot properties, which forced me to report their actions to the police in Igumale, Benue State,” Chief Ijere said.

He added that he was warned not to return to the community after reporting the matter, as the group had reportedly blocked the area and armed themselves.

In response, Romanus Ishiali denied the allegations, claiming it was Chief Ijere’s faction that was looting animals and properties and harvesting crops forcefully.

Efforts to reach the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Joshua Ukandu, for comment were unsuccessful, as his phone calls did not connect at the time of filing this report.
