An activist, Dr Maina Gimba has stated that it was a violation of fundamental human rights to detain minors for allegedly participating in a peaceful protest.

Gimbal, in a statement, added that the Nigerian government must uphold their obligations to protect the rights of all individuals, regardless of age.

“Detaining minors in this manner not only goes against international human rights standards, but it also undermines the democratic principles of freedom of expression and assembly.”

” These young individuals should be released without delay and any conditions attached.”

“Furthermore, the Nigerian authorities must ensure that minors are treated with dignity and respect while in their custody and that their rights are fully protected by international law.”

” Any use of force or violence against minors during their detention is unacceptable and must be promptly investigated and remedied.”

“The Nigerian government must take immediate action to release these minors, rectify the injustice they have faced, and commit,” the statement added.
