Nsukka, Enugu State—Three persons were killed in a motor accident at Umuna junction in Igbo-etiti Local Government Area of Enugu State on the 9th Mile-Obollo expressway on Wednesday, an eyewitness said yesterday.
The witness said a bus with registration number XL 653 FKG was trying to overtake a tanker with registration number XA 781 LAP when the accident occurred.
Mr John Eneze, the Commander of the Nsukka Unit of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, confirmed the accident, saying two males and one female died.
Eneze blamed the accident on an articulated vehicle with registration number XB 820 NGK which was parked beside the road for several hours.
“The driver of the tanker was trying to avoid the articulated vehicle parked beside the road when he lost control of the vehicle, which crushed the bus driver and other two passengers who died on the spot.
“The corpses of the victims have been deposited at the Bishop Shanahan Hospital, Nsukka, mortuary,” he said.
Eneze said driver of the articulated vehicle could not be found after the accident.
The commander said that the FRSC men and some sympathisers had to force the bus open to evacuate the victims.
