No rift with EFCC over Econet shares, says Aondoakaa

By  Dayo Benson & Ise-Oluwa Ige

ABUJA – THE Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Michael Aondoakaa, has described as untrue media reports that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), may clash with him in a London court over the case of ECONET shares involving three ex-governors just as he denied that he jetted out of the country to stop the trial

He also denied that the Metropolitan Police in London made a request for 25 witnesses to be sent by EFCC to testify in the case.

A section of the media had reported that the Attorney- General sat on a request by the Metropolitan Police for EFCC to give evidence in the London court where the trial begins today.

Speaking to Vanguard in an exclusive chat yesterday, on telephone, the minister said his office is working in harmony with EFCC, adding that there was no request for 25 witnesses to be flown to London.

According to him, “I am refuting the allegation that there are some 25 witnesses to be sent to London and that EFCC may clash with me, it is not true. There is no request from EFCC to my office yet and if they have received anything from London, they would have passed it to my office, but there is no such process yet”.

He stated that “every Nigerian who is an adult  has freedom of  movement and of expression and you cannot stop anybody from going to anywhere in the world and with a passport you apply to anywhere you want to go. In this case, you apply to U.K and if the U.K gives you visa, such a person has the right to travel, adding that it has nothing to do with EFCC or the Attorney-General  saying whether you are barred from going or not.”
