IN Sokoto, the apex court decision was greeted with mixed reactions from supporters of Governor Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko and those of the opposition parties.
Reacting to the judgment shortly after news of the sack filtered into Sokoto, All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) Governorship Candidate, Alhaji Yusha’u Muhammed Ahmed told Vanguard in a telephone conversation that the people of the state expected nothing less from the Supreme Court.
“Anyone who knows the truth and believes in the Judiciary of today will not expect anything less from what the Supreme Court did,” Ahmed said, “it only took the patience of the people of Sokoto State to witness this day. Our patience has paid off. We now only have to wait for INEC to schedule the election as ordered by the Court,” he added.
Also reacting on phone Commissioner for Information, Alhaji Dahiru Maishanu, said, it was “a win-win situation. We are ready and prepared for INEC to organise an election. Wamakko shall contest since he has not been precluded from the election to be organised by INEC.”
However, while a cross-section of Wamakko supporters are happy that by their understanding, he may still contest election, those of the opposition strongly feel that by the ruling of the Supreme Court as it affects Oath of Office and Oath of Allegiance, Wamakko is not supposed to contest election as governor again.
