Even though, the cause of autism still remains unknown, an expert, Khadeejah Oluronke Katagum said that early detection and interruption of the ailment will better the lives of Nigerian children as the impediment has no cure due to its natural tendencies.
Katagum, the Founder/CEO of the Zamarr Institute said “current theories indicate a problem with the function or structure of the central nervous system but what we do know is that parents do not cause autism.
Autism according to her “is a life long impairment and is often called a triad of impairments as it affects the speech/language, social interaction (behavior/imagination) and communication.
“The cause of autism remains unknown although current theories indicate a problem with the function or structure of the central nervous system but what we do know is that parents do not cause autism.
“We would like to state that this world class center will expand access for diagnosis and to quality education for children with special education needs in Nigeria in conformity with the global standards.
This will lend supports to the government’s initiatives in this regard and help promote the right of every Nigerian child to quality education.”
