Over 40 persons have been arrested by the Police in Ojo area of Lagos State, for alleged looting and destruction of government property in the area during the ongoing protest against fuel subsidy removal.

Meanwhile, angry protesters, yesterday, descended on a Police Inspector in Obalende area of Lagos, leaving him in the pool of his own blood.

The unidentified policeman, who was ridding on a motorcycle, was on his way to the Area ‘A’ command when he ran into some protesters. He was reportedly ordered  down from his motorcycle and was descended on, an action the protesters claimed was to avenge police brutality on innocent protesters during the ongoing strike action over the removal of fuel subsidy.

The timely intervention of his colleagues saved him from being lynched. The wounded Inspector is recuperating in a hospital in Falomo.

The suspects arrested for alleged looting and destruction of government property are currently being detained at the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, in Ikeja, Lagos. They were said to have attacked, PPL Police Post in Ojo, where they injured a police officer on duty and allegedly carted away  seized motorcycles from the post.

Another set of hoodlums also attacked the offices of Lagos State Traffic Management Agency, LASTMA and  their counterpart at the Federal Road Safety Commission, where they  allegedly stole valuable items.

A police source who spoke with Vanguard on the condition of anonymity, said some other hoodlums were arrested when they barricaded a section of the Lagos Badagry Expressway with bonfires and reportedly extorted motorists and pedestrians who were  going about  their lawful businesses.
