The 2024 Pilgrimage to Ogbobabou Forest in Akparemogbene

The 2024 Pilgrimage to Ogbobabou Forest in Akparemogbene

By Ekanpou Enewaridideke

Ogbobabou, I have come to seek the radiance of your face in my affairs.

Before you an altar stands carrying offerings

An altar of Ekpeleta stakes upon which sits the cut vagina of drum.

A white cloth spread on the cut vagina of the drum conveying items.

Kernels, dry red pepper, alligator pepper, tapioca, mixed gari of palm oil, snuff and biscuits laid on the altar.

All these offerings are for you because I have come  to renew the path once walked on by my father.

Many more offerings shall come to you on the consummation of the renewal and radiance I seek from you today

In pure white clothes my father Maika Ekanpou gave you offering of a fat goat.

The fat goat offered you happened many years ago but still I remember.

My father did that as a palm wine tapper in this your sacred forest

Ogbobabou, you rewarded his offerings quite handsomely.

From sojourn in this your forest tapping raffia palm trees, Maika Ekanpou is today ranked the owner of the first 1962 block house in Ayakoromo.

Your believer Maika Ekanpou is also ranked the owner of the first 1987 one-storey house in Ayakoromo.

In your sacred forest I am today to thank you for making my father great in his days.

I have also come to plead that you continue that journey of bounties with me as the son of Maika Ekanpou.

My father was a palm wine tapper in your forest.

I am here today in your forest as a farmer and writer.

Transform my farming and writing vocation into a radiant light on the mountain that gives comfort to me and to people around me.

Give me the fame and comfort you once gave to my father.

In years and in health on earth, turn me into the original Ekanpou my grandfather…

That original Ekanpou who died older than a centenarian in Akparemogbene as the oldest man in his days.

I shall walk on the path of your sacrosanct codes and creeds as did my father until he died.

Unto you I have come to reap the forest bounties my father once harvested .

Ogbobabou, Ogbobabou, Ogbobabou! bless me abundantly like the way Amaseikumo blesses Tompolo and Gbaramatu Kingdom.

Don’t forsake the son of Maika Ekanpou here to continue the tradition after many years.

Away from this forest  I am for many years but always with this forest in thoughts everyday .

Grant my heart yearnings and let me dance Powe Powe and Niko Niko like the song of Omoko Ogbomudia, besotted with appreciation.
