Akinbobola suspended by NPL Congress

BY IME BASSEY

Nigerian Premier League board member and Head of Media, Akin Akinbobola has been suspended indefinitely by the NPL Congress.

This is also as the congress ratified the N550m per year title sponsorship deal signed by the board last month with Total Promotions on behalf of MTN Nigeria.

The sixth congress which was held in Yenagoa the Bayelsa state capital, saw a N500, 000 prize money for the league top scorer approved while the January 7 commencement date of the league also upheld.

Meanwhile, Akinbobola’s suspension was said to have followed his alleged provocative statements against the league body.

Reacting to his suspension, Akin Akinbobola said that, “they are only trying to distract me from pursuing my mandate in line with due process. I am calm waiting for my appeal to be heard as I don’t want to believe that I have been suspended because the NPL status states the appropriate way and persons to suspend a board member.

“I am happy that a good percentage of the congress refutes the move to dissolve the appeals committee. I really thank them for their stands,” Akinbobola said.
