Kano  (NAN) Three air force officers were killed and another seriously injured when some gunmen attacked the Nigerian Air force Comprehensive School, Kwa, on the  outskirt of Kano.

Air Cdr Sani Ahmed, the Commander, 339 Base Services Group (BSG) of the Nigerian Air Force Base, Kano, confirmed the incident at a news conference  in Kano on Friday.

Ahmed said that the incident happened on Thursday when a group of suspected armed robbers stormed the school between 7.30 p.m. and 8p.m.

He said  “yesterday, a group of armed robbers attacked and fired at our people sporadically and in the process our people responded.

“Unfortunately, two of our airmen died on the spot, while one of the two, who got injured died at the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, Kano.’’

The commander noted that the other injured soldier, currently receiving medical attention at the hospital, would soon be discharged as he was responding to treatment.

Asked whether they were suspecting any group, the commander said “we are not really pinpointing at any group.

“The only thing is that anybody who unlawfully carries arms against the citizens of this country will be seen as a criminal.’’

He said  that the suspected gunmen carted away “some minor things” from the staff quarters of the school.

The officer said that the 110 students in school when the incident happened were hale and hearty “and we are trying to give them some sort of encouragement, including the teachers.’’

He said that even though no arrest was made, efforts were being made to fish out the hoodlums.
