PDP sweeps Enugu LG poll

BY TONY EDIKE

ENUGU- The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Sunday cleared all the 17 chairmanship seats and 259 out of 260 councillorship seats in Saturday’s council polls with most of the opposition parties backed out, while the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, won the remaining one councillorship position.

ENSIEC Chairman, Dr. Boniface Eneh, who declared the results said the APGA councillor, Paul Olinya, scored 1, 071 to beat the PDP candidate and, therefore, emerged the only winner from the opposition political parties.

Eneh admitted that there was logistic problem at Isi-Uzo local government which resulted in violence before voting started late in the night at Eha-Amufu ward 3.

“People wanted to see the result sheet before they could vote and I pleaded with them that it is not done anywhere.

“It is, however, good news that people were given opportunity to say their mind in that Eha-Amufu ward 3 and the irony of it is that the PDP party Chairman and a Commissioner in the state all come from that ward that lost to APGA,” said Eneh.

The commission boss stated that result figures were allocated to the 15 council chairmen-elect based on yes affirmative votes since they were unopposed in their different local government councils.

He announced the names of the council chairmen elect as: Nwobodo Christopher, Aninri; Cornelius Nnaji, Enugu East; Ede Nnaemeka, Enugu North; Nwabueze Okafor, Enugu South; Chukwuemeka Ozoagu, Ezeagu; Festus Ozoemena, Igbo Etiti; Bonaventure Onu, Igboeze North; Festus Ozioko, Igboeze South; Augustine Nnamani, Isi-Uzo;  Pastor Sam Iyiogwe, Nkanu East; Ekene Okenwa, Nkanu West; Anthony Ugwu, Nsukka;  Azubike Onuzulike, Oji River; Dr. Godwin Abonyi,  Udenu; Chinedu Illoeji, Udi  and Cornelius Onwubuya, Uzo-Uwani
