Olympic qualifiers: I would play no part in Eguaveon’s team – Keshi

Eagles coach, Stephen Keshi said yesterday that he would play no part in the national Under-23 team’s campaign at the London 2012 African qualification tournament starting Saturday in Morocco.

The newly appointed Eagles coach stated that his role in Morocco would be to observe proceedings and render advise to the team when the need arises.

“No I’m not going there to coach the team. The team already has a coach in Austin Eguavoen, who is very capable,” said Keshi clearing the air on his mission to Morocco.

“I’m going to be in Morocco to look at the team and see if I can find two or three players that can be part of the Super Eagles. You know this team is next to the Super Eagles so I can’t ignore them.

“And also, I won’t be making any contribution as a coach to the team except Austin (Eguavoen) approaches me for advice. I believe in his coaching abilities and I will be glad to be of help to him and his team in any capacity,” said the 49-year-old Nigerian manager.

Nigeria’s Under23s will get their quest to qualify for the 2012 Olympics underway this Saturday when they face hosts, Morocco.
