Ado-Ekiti – Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State has warned contractors handling the 14 newly awarded road projects in the state against shoddy jobs and shady deals with government officials.

He gave the warning in Ado Ekiti at a meeting with the contractors on the specifications for the construction of the new roads.

The projects are the conversion of Old garage-Ojumose Road in Ado-Ekiti into a dual carriage way, Old garage-Ajilosun Road, Igede-Awo-Osi-Ido Road, Ikere-Igbara Odo Road and Ikogosi-Ipole Iloro-Efon Road.

Others include Ijan-Ise Road, Ijero-Ipoti-Ayetoro Road, Ilawe-Igbara Odo-Ibuji Road, Ikole-Ijesa-Isu-Iluomoba Road, Ijan-Ise Road, Oye-Ikun-Otun Road, Igbehin-First Baptist Church (via Post Office) and Ijigbo Baptist College-Ilawe Road.

The projects were flagged off during the governor’s tour of the 16 local government areas which commenced yesterday.

Fayemi said the state government could not afford a repeat of past failed experiences on road construction, warning that it was not ready to work with any contractor that lacked the ability to deliver durable roads “on cost and in time”.
