I discovered my passion for music from teenage peers, says Afrobeat artist Kingsley King

Kingsley King, one of the most popular Afrobeat performers outside the shores of Africa, has acknowledged his Nigerian heritage and explained how he ended up in the music business despite having an IT background.

The artiste, whose full name is Kingsley Okwudiri Emeghebo, made the disclosure on live Instagram after he posted his new single, Hold Me Tight, and his followers requested to know more about his background.

“I am an Afrobeat artist. I hail from Uzii in Ideator North, Imo State, Nigeria. I attended St. Peter’s Primary School in Afrondizuogu for my primary education and followed it up with National High School. I went on to study Information Technology at the prestigious Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO). In 2009, I completed my Masters degree in Arizona at Phoenix University,” he responded.

Kingsley King further gave a brief background on how he found himself doing music.

“It was during my secondary school years that I also discovered my passion for music. I started playing music gigs with my friends, despite facing scepticism from many who doubted my potential for success,” he recounted.

When asked about some memorable moments in his musical odyssey, he reflected without hesitation: “During my younger years, I had some friends who played instruments like the keyboard and bass. I was highly impressed by their talent, and through them, I discovered my passion for music. However, there is a special story behind how I learned to play the bass. One night, I had a dream where I was playing the bass guitar effortlessly, and from that moment on, I could play the bass like a pro without ever having a lesson.”

The artiste also shared his musical plan with his followers, noting that he would be visiting his hometown in Nigeria soon.

Kingsley King further affirmed that he will be working on an EP in his leisure time to avoid upsetting his career as IT manager and robot programmer.
