Osun State governor, Mr Rauf Aregbesola, has stressed the need for governments at all levels to strictly enforce laws on urban development in order to prevent man-made disasters in the country.
He made the remark recently in Osogbo while declaring open the 42nd Annual Conference of the Nigerian Institute of Town Planners (NITP). He said unless governments at all tiers gear up to the task of enforcing law and order in urban development, the country would continue to witness the ugly trend.
According to him, overpopulation, flooding, rapid spread of diseases and epidemics, upsurge in criminal activities and other disasters which are on the increase in the country are as a result of lack of proper planning in the evolution and growth of the nation’s cities and towns.
He pointed out that the splendour people admire in the cities of developed countries of the world are the products of constant planning and strict enforcement of laws and order.
