Jos- There was tight security in the Plateau State capital on Sunday as Muslims celebrated Eid-el Kabir.  Security men were positioned at strategic points while some others conducted what is called “show of force” exercise round the city to forestall any violence.

Security men also blocked access to some parts to ensure compliance with the ban on two praying grounds located in Christian dominated areas.

In an apparent move to avoid the violence during the Eid-el Fitri celebration in August, the state security council had after a stakeholders meeting agreed to ban the use of the praying grounds while routes were designated for Muslims using particular praying grounds.

In addition, the state police command also announced the ban on motorcycle movement between 6 am and 4pm in what many believed was to avoid the reckless and provocative conduct of some motorcyclists during festivities.

Many streets were deserted as many most residents remained indoor for fear of the unknown following reported threats by some Muslim youths not to respect the ban on the use of the two praying grounds and the counter threats by some Christian youths to resist it.

The temporary ban on the movement on motorcycles also forced many residents to remain indoors as some claimed they did not go to church because thief wee no cabs to board.

However, the Sallah was largely peaceful as the Muslim faithful thronged praying grounds to pray before proceeding to slaughter their rams.
