Former Super Eagles goalkeeper, Peter Rufai a.k.a Dodo Mayana has expressed delight over the appointment of Stephen Keshi even as he rejected claims that ex internationals have failed the country.

Keshi was contracted Wednesday as the Eagles manager with a mandate to qualify the team for the 2013 Nations Cup as well as the 2014 World Cup with at least a quarter final target.

Speaking to Saturday Vanguard Sports, Rufai said, “Honestly, I’m happy with his employment. Really, the senior national team need a coach or coaches with qualities that can blend stars together as well as groom them to stardom. We need quality trainers. Trainers with educative concept, trainers that are consistent. These are the type of people we need. And I think we still have these people around us only that the trainers have fallen into competitive and testing moment.

“ Having Stephen Keshi as Super Eagles coach is a good thing. I know him to be a smart person, and he is also suitable for the job. Keshi, have already acquired a lot of experience within and outside the shores of this country, and he has proved himself, having handled the national teams of Togo and Mali. I believe he has something unique going for him”.

Rufai also lauded Keshi for choosing Amokachi as his assistant. Adding that it will be a perfect team.

“Amokachi is also a good coach, no doubt, and it will really give them a very good opportunity to prove their worth as professional coaches”.
