ABEOKUTA- Barely five days after three persons lost their lives in a fracas involving rival leaders of National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, in a popular motor park in Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State, three others have been confirmed dead in a renewed clash between the feuding members of the union in Ijebu-ode.
Also, a member of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Femi Allen-Taylor, narrowly escaped death when an armed gang attacked him last weekend on his way to his friend’s house in Kobiti, Abeokuta .
The factional leaders fighting for supremacy were simply identified as Aweda and Efele,
One of the victims of the fresh mayhem said to have erupted at Epe motor park yesterday was one Gbenga Odubona.
It was gathered that the violence was a reprisal attack carried out by one of the factions in a bid to avenge the death of one of its supporters allegedly killed as a result of the rivalry within the union.
Confirming the violence, the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, of the State Police Command, Mr Muytiwa Adejobi said the two innocent persons and a member of the NURTW lost their lives in the fracas.
Adejobi said Commissioner of Police, Nicholas Nkemdeme had directed the Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) and Area Commanders in the state to police parks and garages in the state.
According to him “the CP has given directives to DPOs and Area Commanders to always police parks and garages in the state. So, we have deployed enough men to the place and investigation will commence immediately”.
Meantime, a member of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Femi Allen-Taylor narrowly escaped death when armed bandits attacked him last weekend.
The lawmaker, who sustained severe injuries on the head, is a member of the House Committee on Land Matters, which is currently investigating the activities of the immediate past administration in the state.
The lawmaker, who represents Abeokuta State Constituency II, was recently arraigned by the police over alleged disturbance of peace in the state.
It was gathered that the attack was carried out by four armed men who later escaped with the lawmaker’s official Toyota Avensis Car.
But the car was later abandoned at Adatan area of the town.
Narrating his ordeal, Allen-Taylor said that he was ordered out of the car before the bandits hit his head with the gun, resulting in severe head injuries.
According to him, he was later assisted by the residents of the area who rushed him to the State Hospital, in Ijaiye, Abeokuta.
He said he could not link the attack to any person or group, but thanked God for sparing his life.
When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, said, investigations are in progress on the matter.
