LAGOS—Lagos State chapter of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has called on State Security Services, SSS and the Police to immediately arrest the chairman of Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission, LASIEC, Justice Fatai Adeyinka (rtd), Mrs Tokunboh Fatoyinbo and all local government areas and local council development authorities’ returning officers.
State Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr. Taofik Gani, said the call followed the protests that had trailed results announced for state council polls.
Meanwile, Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN in the state, has described PDP alleged violent acts in protesting against results of the council polls as a proof of the insincerity and duplicity of the party.
State ACN Publicity Secretary, Mr. Joe Igbokwe, accused PDP of greed and lust on the quest to annex Lagos to its empire of plunder.
PDP said: Since the illegal and defective announcement of results of the 57 elections in favour of ACN, the masses and leaders of opposition parties have cried foul. Lagosians have been on street protests in some areas of the state.”
The party accused LASIEC of injustice, saying it was unhappy with the commission.
“In the particular case of PDP, the party has condemned the act of LASIEC chairman to announce council elections results contrary to section 51 (1-8) of the LASIEC Law. The party is not happy that LASIEC announced wrong reports to favour ACN in Agbado-Okeodo, Ikoyi-Obalende, Badagry, Somolu, Eredo, and many other wards. In these said areas, the Returning Officers had announced the results as declared PDP candidates as winners,” it stated.
The party also claimed it recorded victory in four councils and in 125 wards, noting “we have the result signed by LASIEC officials and ACN agents in the various polling units.”
While appealing to Lagosians to remain calm, it assured that justice “will prevail at the end.”
