UYO—FAMILIES and relatives of the six policemen who recently died on duty in Akwa Ibom State have been rewarded with N1 million each by the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Chief Godswill Akpabio.
The state governor, who noted that while it is customary that such officers and men end up being unsung heroes in the lethal war against criminals, his vision of a secured state based on a highly motivated and supported police force, was the rationality behind the reward.
Announcing the reward, the state Police Commi-ssioner Mr. Solomon Arase, said the money, beyond being deserving, was in recognition of the gallantry and professional dedication of the deceased officers.
He added that each of them would be post-humously honoured with the commissioner of Police’s Certificate of Commendation for gallantry, dedication to duty and zeal.
The governor’s gesture, the CP said, was aside the official death benefits, insurance claims and sundry entitlements of the deceased officers which were already being processed and will be paid in due course.
