Enugu (NAN) The Enugu State Government has directed the Rector of the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT), Enugu, Prof Edwin Onyeneje and two other principal officers to proceed on compulsory leave.

The other officials affected were the Deputy Rector, Dr John Orji and the Registrar of the institution, Mr Bartholomew Ezeah.

A statement issued in Enugu on Monday by the Commissioner for Education, Dr Simon Otuanya, said that Gov. Sullivan Chime has approved the appointment of Prof Mike Iloeje and Mr Sylvanus Asogwa  as Acting Rector and Registrar respectively.

The governor, according to the statement, also approved the dissolution of the governing board of the institution with immediate effect, saying that a new board would be constituted soon.

The statement also announced the constitution of a five-man judicial panel of inquiry to look into the affairs of the school.

The panel has Justice A.A. Nwobodo  as Chairman, Mr Nduka Ikeyi, a former Commissioner for Justice as Secretary while Prof Malachy Okwaeze, Dr Ikenna Chukwu, and Mrs M. Aniogbo would serve as members.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that although no reason was given for the action, it may, however, not be unconnected with the recent withdrawal of the accreditation of the IMT by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE). (NAN)
