OWERRI—The Minister of Labour and Productivity, Chief Emeka Nwogu, has been urged to intervene and request Abia State Government to withdraw the sack notices served on non-indigenes on its payroll.
Imo State Chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Dr. Reginald Anyadike, made the appeal during a civic reception it organized in Owerri for NLC Deputy National President, Comrade Joe Ajaero.
He said: “Honourable Minister Sir, the sack notice and the eventual implementation of the notice on Imo indigenes working with Abia State Government will not only bring hardship on our people but will also cause disaffection between the two sister states.”
Addressing the N18,000 minimum wage issue, the labour leader lamented that Imo State Government had not entered into agreement with labour over the new wage. “Labour gave government two-week grace as requested by Governor Rochas Okorocha, a period within which government would have formed modalities for the actualization of the N18,000 minimum wage for Imo workers,” he said.
