Jos-Labour in Plateau State has threatened to shut down the state’s economy if the government fails to yield to the demand to implement the new minimum wage by tomorrow.

State Chairman of Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Jibrin Bancir told Vanguard Wednesday that labour would mobilize other sectors of the economy to join the strike as bank workers have done to drive home its point.

The threat by labour came as citizens groan over the continued closure of banks in the state making it impossible to transact business. While many said they could not access their savings to take care of important needs, some others, especially businessmen said they have been unable to bank their proceeds for safe keeping.

A bank customer at one of the banks wondered for how long the banks would remain shut given the prolonged nature of strikes in the state.

However, Bancir expressed concern at what he called the insensitivity of government to workers’ welfare, saying they would be forced to take more drastic actions if government remains adamant.

He said; “We don’t want to collapse the entire economy of the state for now. That is why we have involved only the banks because we know that the banks are a very sensitive sector of the economy.

“However, if by Friday nothing is done, we will involve private schools, NUPENG, NURTW, ACCOMORAN and others, That way, we’ll bring the entire economy to a standstill because that is the only language government understands”.
