Lagos – Ghana soccer legend Abedi Ayew Pele guided his club FC Nania to  another historic feat by beating league champions, Berekum Chelsea, 4-3 on penalties on Sunday to win the 2011 Super Cup.

According to the CAF website – cafonline.com — the second-tier side won the encounter on penalties after a 1-1 draw during regulation time with substitute Evans Omani scoring the decisive kick.

It was the second successive time, Nania, founded and bankrolled by Ayew, beat the league champions after a similar outcome at the quarter finals of the FA Cup.

Naniascored first through Ebenezer Osei in the 43rd minute before Chelsea restored parity through captain, Abdul Basit on 79 minutes.

During the penalties, Lawrence Lartey, Kwasi Owusu, Eric Tuffour and Omani scored for Nania, while Ahmed Adams, Jackson Owusu and Gladson Awako found targets for Chelsea.

The Division One side becomes the first club outside the elite division to win both the Super Cup and FA Cup.

The match, to set the tone for the commencement of the new season, was played in honour of Ibrahim Sly Tetteh, President of Liberty Professionals Football Club, who died on Sept. 3.

According to GFA,the annual one-off match will be played in remembrance of the astute football administrator.

He was credited with the rise to fame of a host of Black Stars players, including Michael Essien, Asamoah Gyan, Sulley Muntari, Kwadwo Asamoah and John Paintsil.
