LG poll: ACN elders decry imposition of candidates

By WALE AKINOLA
LAGOS-Leaders of Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, in Ifako/Ijaiye Local Government Area of Lagos State, have rejected the alleged imposition of one Toba Oke on the party by its leadership as the chairmanship candidate for the October 22 council poll in the state.

Chairman, ACN Elders Assembly in the council, Chief Z. Akinde, said the party followed all the process initiated by the senatorial leader, Alhaji Olatunji Hamzat, which led to the recommendation of one Kayode Aremo as the candidate.

He said: “The recommendation of the selection committee, which put forward Aremo had been sent to ACN national leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, and Lagos State Chairman, Otunba Henry Ajomale, Alhaji Olatunji Hamzat and Cardinal Omolaja Odunmbaku for ratification.

“We were surprised when the news filtered out that Oke had been chosen. This is what happened in 2008, when the incumbent, Doherty, was imposed on the council. Now, it will be a rape on democracy if another candidate is imposed on the council  against laid-down process by the leaders after the abysmal performance of Doherty.”
