OWERRI-Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State has reiterated his readiness to collaborate with the Federal Ministry of Interior to relocate the Federal Prisons in Owerri city centre to a more befitting site.

Governor Okorocha, who made his administration’s position known when he played host to the Minister of Interior, Mr Patrick Abba Moro, also decried what he termed “the unhealthy condition of prisons in the country.”

The governor recalled with grief that his recent visit to the establishment revealed that the facilities were over stretched, dilapidated, not habitable and incapable of reforming inmates to better citizens.

Okorocha equally commended the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, for its performance in ensuring security of lives and property which he said is outstanding in the state.

Earlier, the minister explained that the National Assembly amended the Act that established NSCDC to enable it to use arms and assured that the Corps was better positioned to face challenges the security situation has posed in the country.

Mr Moro also pledged that the Corps will spread its tentacles to ensure adequate security of lives and property in the nation.

Vanguard recalls that the governor and his guest had earlier graced the passing out parade of the personnel of the armed unit of NSCDC at the Prisons Training School, Owerri.
