Coach Samson Siasia has laid down the marker to his Super Eagles players ahead of next month’s deciding 2012 African Cup of Nations qualifier against the Syli Stars of Guinea.
He has warned them that they must avoid conceding any goal against Guinea, who are locked in a fierce fight with Nigeria for the automatic qualification ticket to play in next year’s Afcon.
Nigeria, two-time Nations Cup champions play Guinea in a potentially explosive match on October 9 at the Abuja National Stadium. Guinea top the group B table with 13 points from five matches, three more than the Eagles, who however need to beat their west African foes with two clear goals, to guarantee their place at the nations Cup finals, to be co-hosted by Equatorial Guinea and Gabon.
“We let in three goals against Argentina but we cannot afford to allow in any goal in our next natch against Guinea because a Guinean goal is not going to help our chances of qualifying for the Nations Cup”, said Siasia.
The former Super Eagles striker said that he was confident that his wards will make the grade to play at the next edition of the Nations Cup.
“Ï have said it before and I would say it again that our main aim right now is to qualify automatically for the Nations Cup in 2012. We are still three points behind Guinea but at the end of our next match in October, I am sure that we would have the last laugh”, said Siasia.
