The 10th All Africa Games begin in a big way Saturday in Maputo, the capital city of Mozambique.

Tagged Maputo 2011, the multi-sports continental championship will see all member nations of the Africa Union competing for honours in various disciplines.

For the Nigerian contingent, the aim is to emerge tops on the medals table on the last day of the Games but against determined and better prepared nations like South Africa and Egypt, it remains to be seen how that dream can be realised given the poor preparations given the country’s athletes in the weeks leading up to the Championship.

But the likes of Blessing Okagbare, Damola Osayomi, in the women’s sprints events, can give the country the required gold medals push in their respective events when push comes to shove.
