ASABA—Delta State Hospitals Management Board chapters of Medical and Dental Consultants’ Association of Nigeria, MEDICAN, and National Association of Government General Medical and Dental Practitioners of Nigeria, NAGGMP, are threatening to go on strike, if there are no retirement savings in their accounts and tax cut.

The two bodies, in a communique signed by Drs. V. Ofuonye and M. O. Eyovwerhuvwu for MEDICAN and Doctors E.F. Oshonwoh and R.O.C. Ikwuogu for NAGGMDP, gave Governor Uduaghan 10 days to meet their demands.

The NAGGMDP had also in a separate statement called on the Permanent Secretary of HMB, Dr. Caroline Ajuyah, to quit office within 10 days for alleged high-handedness and intimidation of its members.

The medical bodies said although Deltans believed they were receving a jumbo pay under a new salary scheme, CONMESS, its purported benefits were lost through a harsh and obnoxious tax regimen, even as they asserted that their colleagues in Rivers and Lagos states were better paid and payed less tax.
