UGHELLI – Mr. Festus Akponovo, President-General, Otor-Igho Community Development Union, Isoko North Local Government Area, Delta State, yesterday,  expressed dismay at media reports credited to one Chief Moses Ode, that the change of the community’s name from Otibio to Otor-Igho was done without consultation.

Ode, in the media report was quoted to have described the change of the community’s name as primitive.

Reacting to the media report, Akponovo said that invitations to meetings of stakeholders had always been extended to Ode either verbally or through registered mails. He reiterated that it was a surprise that Ode could say he was not part of the meetings that culminated in the change of the community’s name.

According to Akponovo, the decision to change the name of the community from Otibio to Otor-Igho at a well attended annual conference held December 26, 2009, was irreversible and binding on all sons and daughters of the community. He added that the people had accepted the new name due to its uniqueness.

He said Otor-Igho community was owned by all sons and daughters of the town and was, therefore, not the property of any individual.
