In our Saturday, July 16, edition we published an exclusive interview entitled My Last Moments with Christy, where Chief Edwin Igbokwe, late Christy’s husband, narrated how his wife of many years gave up the ghost a few weeks ago. Chief Igbokwe, here puts the record straight.

He said: “There was no sign that she would give up. On our second night (June 29, 2011) in the hospital, at about 10.45pm, she ordered that it was time we started praying and praising God. She said: ‘It is time!

It is warfare! It is done!’ Around past midnight (early morning of June 30), as we were still praying, she ordered that I call up as many people as possible, who are close to us, to join in the prayers. I did so.

“We continued with our prayers and intermittently she gave messages. At a point, I noticed that she was looking brighter and we started thanking God for answering our prayers.”

On the issue of oxygen, Mr. Igbokwe said: “We begged her because she rejected the light oxygen pipe (not mask) that was being administered on her and she obliged us. But she said it was choking her. We continued to plead with her and she obliged us.

“A Reverend from Archbishop Vining Memorial Church came to the hospital at about 8.30am, June 30, saying he was supposed to be at the hospital the previous day to pray with her. Initially, I joined in the prayers but had to rush out later with a doctor in search of the Intensive Care Unit, ICU, bed. Our kids were with the Reverend. Before we came back she was gone. I was confused.

“My son later told me that she breathed her last at exactly 9am when she normally starts her own prayers. It was also when the Reverend concluded reading a passage and they said ‘Amen’ together.

“I have no single doubt that she is in Heaven because of the life she lived here on earth. All the signs indicated so,” he added.
