ABEOKUTA -THE Ogun state House of  Assembly has approved the appointment of the sons of Nobel Laurete Prof. Wole Soyinka, Dr. Olaokun and that of late theatre doyen, Hubert Ogunde, Mr Oluwemimo (SAN) as part of  17 commissioner- nominees screened.

The list of Commissioners was  forwarded  last week to the House of assembly  by the state  governor, Senator  Ibikunle Amosun while two other names were added on Monday prompting their screening.

The House which  later adopted the report and confirmed the nomination of the commissioners-designate  at the plenary session  also approved the proposed  appointment of 20 Special advisers to the governor whose list was sent to the House Tuesday  for their legislators approval.

During the screening,  the London-trained medical doctor Dr Oluokun Soyinka and Oluwemimo Ogunde (SAN) appeared before the  committee of former Speaker Muyiwa Oladipo the whole House where they were drilled and certified to be worthy of the position.

Also among the Commissioners designate who appered were the immediate-past Editorial Board Chairman  of ThisDay newspaper, Mr. Yusuf  Olaniyonu,  a  London-trained  Chartered Accountant Mrs Folakemi Adeosun, as well as son of Osile of Oke-Ona, Oba Adedapo Tejuoso, Dr. Lanre Tejuosho.

Part of those that scaled through the screening  were   former running mate of governor Amosun in 2007 Mrs Olayinka Sonubi,  Durojaiye Ayedogbon, Adebayo Fari,   Lekan Adegbite, Falilu Sabitu, Segun Odubela, Olu Odeyemi, and  Adejobi Bolarinwa.

Confirming their nomination the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Hon Suraj Adekunbi asked Mrs. Adijat Oladapo-Adeleye representing Ifo11 state constituency to  read  and move the motion for the adoption of the report on the screening of the nominees  and was seconded by  Mr. Bankole Olusola representing Ado-Odo Ota.

The Speaker  further  called the majority leader of the House, Mr. Jolaoso Isreal representing Ewekoro to move the motion for the confirmation of their nomination  by putting it into voice vote  which favoured all the commissioners-designate except one Mr Gbenga Otenuga who was absent on medical ground.

Responding to  some questions asked by the committee members, Soyinka’s son promised to partner with foreign donors and generate fund for the state if eventually allowed to serve as commissioner for health in the state.

According to Hubert Ogunde’s  son, Oluwemimo  lamented  the failure of the National Assembly to gazette  laws that were passed on the floor of the chambers.
