PORT HARCOURT: ABOUT six staff of a multinational Oil Company reportedly escaped death by a hairs breath on Thursday when a chartered aircraft they boarded skidded off the runway at the Port Harcourt international airport, Omagwa.
Assistant General Manager, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, Mr Victor Arisa who confirmed the development to news men said no casualty was recorded. He added that it occurred at about 7.30pm on Thursday
Nigeria time but the incident did not disrupt flight operations at the airport.
He said investigation was on by the appropriate authority to ascertain the cause of the development.
“We opened the airport at about 1.30am. So planes have been landing and leaving the airport,” he said
Meantime, some eyewitnesses who spoke to the Vanguard said the incident caused panic and tension at the airport. They expressed gratitude to God that no form of casualty was recorded when the aircraft overshot the runway
