BENIN—EDO State House of Assembly has summoned the Comptroller of Federal Road Maintenance Agency, FERMA, in the state and the Managing Director of NigerCat Construction Company to appear before them on  July 11 to explain why it was taking so much time to fix the bad spots along Benin-Auchi-Okene-Abuja highway.

The lawmakers also appealed to the Federal Government as well as the Edo State Government to immediately commence work at the gully erosion sites in the state, especially the gully erosion at Jattu in Estako West Local Government Area, which is now a death trap to travellers along the highway.

This is the third time the Edo Assembly is summoning the authorities of FERMA in the state to brief the legislature on the deplorable state of the busy Benin-Auchi-Okene-Abuja highway.

The latest resolution of the Assembly followed a motion by Edoror Victor (Esan Central) on the devastating effects of gully erosion in Ibore, Ehanlen and Ewu along the highway.

The resolution also directed the Federal Government to release the Ecological funds accruing to Edo State without delay, just as it called on relevant agencies to mobilise and provide succour to cushion the effect of the menacing erosion on residents in the affected communities.

The House also appealed to Senators and House of Representatives members of Edo State in the National Assembly to work towards drawing the attention of the National Assembly with a view to compelling the Federal Government and its agencies to respond swiftly.
