Conduct Bureau asks Delta commissioner-designates to declare assets before swearing-in

DELTA State Director of Code of Conduct Bureau, Chief Anthony Onyeibe, has asked all the newly appointed commissioners who were confirmed few days ago by members of the state House of Assembly to declare their assets before subscribing to the oath of office in order to save themselves from breaching the Constitution.

The Code of Conduct Bureau boss stated this, weekend, in Asaba, in a press release, tagged, ‘Assets declaration by the commissioner designates in compliance with Section 194 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria’.

The release stated, “we rely on the above section of the Constitution to inform all commissioner designates that any subscription to the oath of allegiance and oath for due execution of the duties of their office will be a nullity or invalid if they do not declare their assets first as prescribed in the 7th Schedule of the Constitution.

“Furthermore, we wish to reconfirm that any commissioner designate who swore to oath without declaring his/her assets will be in error into any oath without declaring his/her assets”.

Twenty-two nominees which Governor Uduaghan sent to the state House of Assembly for clearance were confirmed during the sitting of the House last Thursday.

Screened and confirmed as Commissioners were Prof. Patrick Muoboghare, Paulinus Akpeki, Bernard Okumagba, Dr. Joseph Otumara, Dr. Anthonia Ashiedu, Frank Omare, Prof. Hope Eghagha, Mrs. Orezi Esievo, Tony Nwaka, Richard Mofe Damijo and Solomon Funkekeme.

Others were Charles Ajuyah (SAN), Chike Ogeah, Benard Igbakpa, Mrs. Betty Efekhoda, Gloria Okolugbo,  Kingsley Emu, Misan Kubeyinje, Ebifa Ijeoma, Patrick Ferife,  Neworld Safugha and Dr. Chris Oghenechevwen.
