National Directorate of Employment,NDE, has commended Governor Ibrahim Idris of Kogi state for assisting NDE to resettle 50 physically challenged persons trained by the Directorate under a special skills acquisition programme for the persons with disabilities and other special needs.

In a letter to the Governor, the NDE Coordinator for Kogi State Mr. Nnamdi  Asomugha  praised the Governor for disbursing N50million to  physically challenged persons trained by NDE.

Their training were in trades such as Tie and Dye, Shoe and leather works, soap and body cream making, beads stringing and hair dressing.

Asomugha said that the objective of the scheme which was initiated by the NDE Director-General Mallam Abubakar Mohammed in 2010, was to impart  people with special needs and other vulnerable persons with marketable. The skills training were also geared to imbibe in them a sense of self-worth and self-confidence.

The State Coordinator said that the assistance by the state Governor in resettling them will greatly reduce street begging and other social vices associated with this category of unemployed persons.  He enjoined the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the money given to them by Governor Idris. Asomugha tasked other stakeholders to emulate the effort of the Kogi State Governor to empower over 21000 unemployed trained by the NDE in Kogi State. The NDE state coordinator further solicited for collaboration with the state Government to create over 5000 jobs for unemployed youths in Kogi State through skill acquisition and resettlement.
