IBADAN – FORMER Governor of Oyo State, Alhaji Lamidi Adesina has intervened in the disagreement between Governor Abiola Ajimobi and workers in the state, leading to a suspension of planned strike over the N18,000 new minimum wage that would have commenced today.

Alhaji Adesina, at a get-together organised by Senator Olufemi Lanlehin representing Oyo South Senatorial District in the National Assembly for his supporters in the 33 local government areas  revealed  how leaders of the workers visited him for possible solution to the brewing crisis.

The event attracted chieftains of the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, in the state including former State Chairman of the party, Chief Samuel Farinu, Chief Akin Oke, Mr. Sarafadeen Ali, former Chief of Staff in the administration of Senator Rashidi Ladoja and State Secretary of the party, Mr. Wasiu Olatunbosun.

The ex-governor said he appealed to the workers to allow reasons prevail as the immediate past administration did not mean well for the state by approving the payment of the new wage.

According to him: “We don’t want any confusion in the state.  I have spoken with the governor and the leaders of the workers. They have promised to show understanding. We don’t want the workers to go on strike so that people of Oyo State who voted for us won’t suffer.”

Following the former governor’s plea and other stakeholders in the state, the workers have shelved the planned strike.

At a congress weekend attended by thousands of the workers, the State Chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress, Bashir Olanrewaju, persuaded  public workers in the state not to go on strike.

He argued that it would be counter-productive if the workers embarked on strike when their May Salary had not been paid.
