Board of Directors of GBC-Health, an organisation that mobilises business for a healthier world, has elected the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Access Bank Plc, Mr. Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede, the organisation’s co-chairman.

The appointment took effect on June 3, 2011. He succeeds Sir Mark Moody-Stuart who stepped down after more than four years as chairman and also as co-chairman.

According to a statement, by Olusegun Fafore, Corporate Affairs officer, Access Bank, Aig-Imoukhuede in his GBC-Health assignment, became the first African to lead GBC-Health and joined Coca-Cola Chairman and CEO Muhtar Kent who served as US co-Chairman.

“Aig-Imoukhuede has demonstrated great leadership and acumen in building Access Bank, But he has also found time to demonstrate true leadership on global health. I feel very confident handing over the GBC Health reigns to Aig-Imoukhuede,” says Moody-Stuart.

Fafor-of-its-kind initiative among African businesses which has so far raised several millions of US Dollars from African corporations in support of the Global Fund to Fight HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.

He noted that Aig-Imoukhuede assumed leadership at GBC-Health as the organization “broadens its mandate from fighting the three major infectious disease pandemics to a comprehensive global health mandate.”

This shift, according to him, “is meant to increase the scope and effectiveness of corporate engagement on strategic public health challenges around the world.

“Aig-Imoukhuede represents the best of Africa and I look forward to working closely with him to take our organisation to the next level. Mark has been an incredibly important leader for us; I cannot think of anyone who can pick up where he leaves off with the focus, energy and commitment that Aig-Imoukhuede has,” said GBC-Health’s President and CEO, John Tedstro.
