 LAGOS-Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State, yesterday,  stressed the need  for the decentralization of  Nigeria Police with a appeal to members of the seventh  National Assembly to make laws that would keep the peace in the country.

He also called on the Federal Government to take more than a passing interest in the welfare and affairs of officers of members of the Nigerian Armed Forces and improve their living condition so as to improve their job efficiency.

Fashola made the call at the official commissioning of the Corporate Headquarters of Bi-Communications, producers of popular Television series, Crime Fighters in Lagos.

The governor who spoje against  the backdrop of the recent clash between policemen and Army officers in Badagry, Lagos, where three police officers were alleged killed by military officers, said the welfare of the Armed Forces was crucial to avoid such clashes and bring out the best of the officers in the discharge of their duties.

He said, “I believe that as the seventh Assembly convenes, one of the things that should be top on their minds is how to decentralise the Nigerian Police.”

African Renaissance Party, Lagos State chapter,  yesterday, urged  Lagosians  not to relent in their support for the second tenure of Governor Babatunde Fashola, SAN and all the elected members of the state House of Assembly.

Lagos chairman of the party, Chief Udoka Udeogaranya, who spoke at the party’s  monthly  meeting, in Lagos,  also tasked Lagos residents  on prompt payments of all their taxes to the government.

He said, ARP which had during the  April elections endorsed  Governor  Fashola  will be pleased to see him sustain past achievements and move Lagos State to a greater height, even though such accomplishment will require enormous funds.

According to him, “as residents in the state of excellence, we desire good roads that will reduce the cost of car maintenance and prolong its value.  We need healthcare that will save lives and increase human productivity. We are in dire need of a well secured environment that will safeguard investments and obstruct loses of all manner.”
